Sourced from 40+ year old vines in the sub region of Light Pass on the Barossa Valley floor. This block was chosen for its old vines growing in deep sand over clay. This combination delivers lighter softer fruit with delicate spice and red fruits in abundance.
First made in 2013, we have encompassed many variations of stalks and whole bunches during fermentation to add depth and structure to suit the seasonal variations of the growing season.
2018 was near perfect for Grenache in the Barossa Valley. we incinerated 50% whole bunches in this wine as the growing season produced the desired level of ripeness in the fruit. We made one puncheon (500L) with the barrel being lightly shaved prior to filling. The wine was matured for 15 months to obtain the perfect balance of fruit sweetness and savoury oak influence with structural tannins to bind in all together.
