Sourced from the Road Block located in the Koonunga sub region. When we started making wines for Rock of Wisdom in 2013 we were trying to work out how to make our Barossa Shiraz stand out and show the softer more elegant side of life. The small addition of Viognier Skins added during fermentation changes from year to year. In 2018 we rocked (get it?) 5% Viognier skins. This little kick lifts the aromatics and guides the wine towards a more softer, rounder more aromatic style of Shiraz.
2018 was near perfect for the Barossa with Shiraz being opulent and voluptuous. The Viognier brings white flowers to the dark fruits of Shiraz and softens the tannin profile to a rounder fuller richer structure. 50% of the old French oak used was lightly shaved before filling, the oak has added a sweet back bone with line and length in the wine.
