Rock of Wisdom Grenache 2021

Posted on 25 March 2022.

Barossa Valley Grenache, old vines, Koonunga sub-region I believe.

This is very lovely. Bright and fragrant, sandy and gritty in a good way, blessed with fruit, floral and earth notes, and structured through the finish. I like it when you can almost feel the texture of the earth in the wine itself, even as it heads towards more silken territory. This is one such wine. There’s alcohol warmth here but it still feels lively. It’s good. It’s tasty and fine at once.

Rock Of Wisdom Mataro 2021

Seductively flavoured. Pure liquorice, light toast, earth and molasses, raspberries. It’s ripe and sweet-fruited but there are base notes, earth notes, interest. Acidity is again on the apple juice side but the power of fruit more than covers for it. Lovely wine to drink.

Rock of Wisdom Shiraz 2020

There’s a solid core of fruit here, ultra ripe, blackberry nip and redcurrant, coal and liquorice. Toasty cedarwood oak is present but not dangerous, and while the acidity tastes slightly apple-like it also presents as well integrated/balanced. This is a hefty wine served fresh and satisfying.
